Welcome to the Santi Wheel Fundamentals Series

I am delighted to bring this instructional series to you. By working diligently and consistently with the series you will develop a relationship with the Santi wheel and embody the confidence to create a practice based on your own individual needs.

With precise cues and positioning on the wheel the Santi Wheel Fundamentals Series includes:

  • Session 1 :  Establishing a Relationship With the Wheel 
  • Session 2 :  Basic Backbending 
  • Session 3 : Shoulder Openings
  • Session 4 : Strength and Core Postures 
  • Session 5 : Standing Forward Bends 
  • Session 6 : Seated Forward Bends 
  • Session 7 : Hip Flexors and Quads
  • Session 8 : Tortoise Tails – learn a sequence that moves towards  full Supta Kurmasana
  • Session 9 : Loving Legs
  • Session 10 :  Backbends
  • Session 11: Shoulderstand
  • Session 12: Headstand and Advanced backbends

The sessions are organised so each foundational movement builds on the next movement within the session and each session gradually progresses to the next. This progression will ensure the whole body is open and fluid before you advance into the deeper back-bending sessions. By working through the series you will have a solid foundation upon which to expand into your own practice.

Themes to consider throughout the practice:

1. You are developing a relationship with the wheel. We all have structural and skeletal differences and proportions, areas of tightness, weakness and strength. We also have many emotional and energetic obstructions in the body. Therefore it is imperative that you establish an intimate connection to the wheel so you can observe and move through what your body and emotional disposition is presenting.

2. If you do not develop this intimate relationship you can injure yourself very quickly.

3. Which brings me to safety:

– Work slowly

– Work mindfully and with curiosity

– Connect with your breath to relax, release and respond

– Recruit and integrate the use of your legs

– Take some time to acclimate to the wheel, and learn how to use it.

4. The wheel provides a myriad of benefits:

– back, shoulder and chest opening

– quad/ hip flexor and psoas line stretches

– It may trick you into some core work.

The fundamentals series will enhance your body awareness as you develop a relationship with the wheel by relaxing the inner body and awakening the outer body.
